There isn’t just one thing that has us awake while most of the world is sleeping. There’s pain, nausea, anxiety, loneliness, and depression. There’s wonder, inspiration, gratitude, revelation, and radiance. Writing This Day Won’t Come Again has been my good company when it was too late or too early to reach out to others, or when I needed to be a while with my own soul. I offer it with the hope it will fall open to pages that meet you when nothing and no one else is at hand.

Hi, I’m Jocelyn

Portrait of an Jocelyn Rasmussen with short grey hair, smiling, wearing a white button-down shirt, against a dark blue background.

In my childhood, singing felt as important as breathing — I wasn’t sure I could live without it. It has sustained me through illness, losses, surprises, and graces too many to count. As my career evolved to include teaching, I worked with the voices of others and witnessed how life experiences, whether physical, emotional or spiritual, affect the voice and the ability to express oneself. I became convinced that the gifts of the human voice aren’t just for those who have careers, but for anyone with breath. The transformational capacity of the voice inspired my first book Meant to Be Heard: Tuning in to the Grace of Your Voice.

For over a decade I’ve been in treatment for late-stage ovarian cancer, and the gratitude and radiance I’ve experienced during this time have grown into my second book, This Day Won’t Come Again: Radical Presence and Life-Threatening Illness. As an inspirational speaker I share my own evolving story of hope and healing as well as wisdom and grace for the collective transformation we are creating together.

Joe McGinty, Recording Artist/Music Director, New York City

  • "Ms. Rasmussen is without question truly gifted; she is perceptive, highly motivated, extremely knowledgeable and caring. Her devotion and interest in her students’ progress far surpassed usual norms; she was determined to see them succeed and they did!”

David Clatworthy, Chair, Department of Music, Binghamton University

  • “Ms. Rasmussen is certainly uniquely gifted and among the very best teachers I’ve ever known. Her technical understanding is phenomenal and, when combined with her excellent musicianship and artistic understanding, each lesson becomes an event."

Kay Walker Castaldo, Singer/Opera Director, Philadelphia

  • “Having Ms. Rasmussen’s encouragement and sincere belief to support my work, has empowered me to go forward with a record deal that, without her, I had doubted I could fulfill. No other teacher has been able to integrate every aspect of developing my artistry as she has. Not only do we develop technical capacities, but also the mental and emotional strength and resilience required in this industry. I am truly grateful to have one of the best teachers I have ever encountered in the field."

China Pryzbyl, Recording Artist, New York City

  • "Nothing can describe well enough who she is as a person, which comes through in her lessons. She is totally present, available, flexible and extremely patient, as well as knowledgeable about human relations. She has the unique ability to use music as a “healing” tool. She is in a class by herself--extraordinary.”

Lydia Yohay, Therapist, New York City

  • “She is, without a doubt, one of the most uniquely special individuals I have had the good fortune to be acquainted with. She is an enormously gifted teacher who has a profound effect on those who are lucky enough to study with her."
